Malay Language

The Malay Language Department organises various activities and programmes for students throughout the year in an attempt to improve their mastery of the Malay Language as well as to inculcate the joy of learning the language.

Mother Tongue Fortnight

The Malay Department organises two weeks of fun-filled cultural activities each year. The department aims to instil in students the sense of love for Malay culture which is essential in the learning of the Malay Language. These activities help to inspire and motivate interest towards the Malay Language apart from discovering their talents and skills. Classroom activities such as Spelling Bee Competition, heads-up games, song lyric-writing competitions and learning and writing ‘Pantun’ were carried out. Our Primary 4 students also participated in the Language and Cultural Camp.

‘Marilah Bersastera’ Extensive Reading Programme

The students are exposed to many different kinds of reading materials in order to enhance their mastery of the Malay Language. Accompanying learning materials are also developed to enrich their learning. Students get to do reviews and learn about characterisation and plot.

Tamil Language

Tamil students participate actively in various fun-filled activities throughout the year and, at the same time, learn to communicate effectively in Tamil. Presentations for the various festivals like Thaipusam, Pongal and Deepavali provide students, especially of other races, a better understanding of Indian traditions. Students are also involved in the Mother Tongue Fortnight activities where they learn more about Indian Culture and have hands-on experience in making traditional crafts and playing traditional games.
